Making a Claim - Motor Vehicle
What you must DO immediately after the loss or damage
- Take all reasonable steps to secure the vehicle to prevent further loss, damage or liability.
- Write down and record the name, current address, phone number and licence number of the driver of any other vehicles involved in the accident, and the registration number and type of vehicle of any other vehicles involved in the accident.
- Write down and record the current name, address and phone number of any witnesses to the accident.
- Notify police immediately if your vehicle or property is stolen or maliciously damaged or if any persons are injured due to an accident.
Liability
- Do not admit liability either verbally or in writing if an incident occurs which is likely to result in another person making a claim for compensation against you.
- Do not make an offer, settlement or promise of payment without our prior written consent.
- Do not incur any costs or expenses without our prior written consent, in respect of any right or claim.
Towing
If your vehicle is damaged and cannot be driven Accident Towing Allocation should be contacted on 13 11 76 to arrange for the vehicle to be towed to the nearest repairer, or place of safety.
Making A Claim
- Promptly contact Affinity Insurance Brokers on 1300 131 366, on Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.00am – 5.30pm to report the loss, damage or accident and obtain further information about what to do next, including information advising what documentation will be required to support your claim.
- Obtain a claim form for completion and return to our office. This may be downloaded from this website, or otherwise the claim form can be posted, faxed or emailed to you upon request.
- Complete and return the claim form to us within 7days together with any information or documentation such as quotations, proof of ownership and/or police report which support your claim together with a copy of your driver's licence. We will then arrange for an assessment of your vehicle.
- In the event of an accident/theft where the vehicle is undriveable and you have arranged for it to be towed to the nearest repairer or place of safety, you will need to tell us the name, address and telephone number of the company where the vehicle has been towed. Upon receipt of your completed claim form we will then arrange for an assessment of your vehicle.
- We may appoint an investigator to attend at your premises to assess the circumstances of the loss or damage.
Excess
An excess is the first amount, which you must pay towards each claim. This amount is shown on your schedule. Before we pay a claim you must pay the total amount of the excess to the person to whom we direct you to pay it. This may be a repairer or our office.
Co-Operation
If an event occurs which may give rise to a claim being made against you, you must:
- Supply us with all the information we require to settle or defend the claim on your behalf.
- Send to us immediately any letter, notice, claim, Writ, Complaint or communication from other parties in which a claim is made or threatened or intimated.
- Not authorise repairs without our prior written consent.
Action By Us
When we receive a claim from you we will examine the circumstances of the incident and tell you if you are covered.
If your claim is covered and payable by us, we will arrange for your vehicle to be assessed.
Windscreen Claims
If a windscreen or window glass on the vehicle is damaged due to accident or theft please contact:
- O'Brien Glass on 1800 800 889 and tell them you are insured with Affinity Risk Partners and quote your policy number to arrange repairs/replacement or,
- Obtain comparative quotations from two repairers and proceed with the repair or replacement of the broken window if the quotation is below $1000.00.
- Then contact Affinity Insurance Brokers on 1300 131 366 promptly on Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.00am – 5.30pm to report the damage and request a claim form for completion and return to our office. This may be downloaded from this website, or otherwise the claim form can be posted, faxed or emailed to you upon request. Please advise our office if the quotations you obtained exceed $500.00 and we will instruct you what to do.
